Open Belt Buckle Knife The knife is a very high quality folder held securely in place on our unique belt buckle design. Although it is not designed to be concealed, it is not at all obvious it is a knife.

Knife is held securely in place with the use of a magnet and a pin The knife is held in place by the combination of a magnet and a pin. It is very secure and will not fall out. It has a 2 15/32 inch blade. This size is to ensure that it is under the legal limit set by California law.

Belt buckle knife linear lock The knife blade is 440 C Stainless Steel and will hold an edge very well. It has a linear lock and adjustable blade tension.

Is this a quality knife

It is of the highest quality. The blade steel is 440 C Stainless steel. It will hold an excellent edge yet can be sharpened in the field. The knife now has a linear locking system. A very solid lock, yet very easy to operate. Also, teflon inserts have been added for a very smooth action. A chicago screw allows for the tension to be adjustable. Since it's recent redesign it is truly a knife lovers knife.

If I lose the knife, can I buy just a replacement knife

Yes

How big is it?

The buckle, with th knife installed is about 3 1/4 inches wide by about 1 5/8 inches high. It is about 3/8 of an inch thick. It is not a large buckle. It is designed to not get in the way in such activities as riding your Harley.
It is made to fit a 1 1/2 belt which is a standard opening size.
The knife blade is 2 15/32 inches.

Do I need a special belt for it?

Most belts of decent quality are made to change buckles. If you look at the back, they just have snaps that you unsnap and change buckles. Belts of poor quality are ussually sewn or riveted and you cannot change buckles. If they are rivets, don't pull them apart, they will break.

Where can I get a belt to fit it?

Almost anywhere. Mens stores, womens stores, I've even seen them in Walmart but most at Walmart are not of high quality and are sewn.

How does it work?

You'd be amazed at how much time we spent on the phone talking people through how to make it work. Once you get it, it's totally easy. I love to hand it to people and watch them try to open it. Less than one in a hundred figure it out. So I finally got smart. I put up a page with instructions at How it works We also send out an instruction sheet with the knife.

I've had people call me and tell me they messed with it for three days and they were calling to tell me that they were proud of themselves for figuring it out.

Want to be really funny, buy one as a gift and remove the instruction sheet. :-)

Most of the time people call I think because they want to tell someone how cool it is, they often keep Liz on the phone for thirty minutes. Well, we know how cool it is, we wear them. If you really want to tell us, e-mail it to us with permission to use what you say and we'll probably post it online. I might even put up a forum.

Is it a weapon?

Is a screwdriver a weapon?

Is it Legal?

Yes, it is legal in all 50 states. California and Nevada have laws about the belt buckle knife but they exclude our knife. If you live outside the US you'll have to check your countries laws

Disclaimer: We at belt-buckle-knife.com are not attorneys and therefore do not offer legal advice. We strongly urge that you research the knife laws in your area prior to purchasing any of our products. By purchasing product you agree that you have researched the laws in your area and will hold harmless belt-buckle-knife.com, it's administrators, and owners.

With that said, we believe these knives to be legal in all 50 states. This is only our opinion and you must do the research yourself. To our knowledge, the only states that mention belt buckle knives are California and Nevada. Should you decide to wear the knife in California or Nevada, we reccomend Printing out the section of code which defines the law concerning belt buckle knives.

In the California Penal code, PC 12020 mentions a belt buckle knife. It is our opinion that this law was written concerning the spade like weapon which is made as an integral part of a belt buckle. We believe that is why the word integral is used to describe it, when you pulled the knife out, your belt fell off. Ours is a completely different design, which is really a belt buckle which is a holder for a knife.

The beginning of the code states that "all belt buckle knives are illegal". This is the part of the code that most police officers will remember. The code goes on later to define a belt buckle knife as having a blade length of over 2 1/2 inches and also being an integral part of the buckle. Our belt buckle knife is neither of these. This is the part of the code that you should know and carry and also know the meaning of the word integral. Not all officers are familiar with the latter part of the code. You can find the code at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov

Nevade law found in NRS 202.350 and says "Knife which is made an integral part of a belt buckle...". If you plan on carrying this knife in Nevada you better know the code.
Nevada code can be found at the http://www.leg.state.nv.us
